Week of Firsts

So this has been a very interesting week to say the least. So far:

1. Jack shit through his diaper onto my pants
2. Jack peed on me while changing his diaper (he's done this to Amy twice but I've dodged the bullet until now)
3. Jack has his first appointment with the pediatrician. He now weighs 10lbs. 4oz and is 22 1/2 inches long.
4. Amy started going back to work this week and is in Chicago for the night so Jack and I are going 24+ hours solo.
5. I've threatened Jack with leaving him at the local fire station and mostly meant it. Jack and I are still feeling each other out. Some days I wonder who cries more tears him or me.

A friend of mine told me when I was pregnant that the main goal during these first weeks with the baby is to just survive. If we are both alive at the end of the day it's been a successful day. I have to remind myself of this daily.

Now for some pictures :)

what a cutie. take care of yourself. I've already identified rooms I can go in to take a time out when I need one because I know they'll be coming.

It's total survival mode. These will be THE hardest weeks of your life but then everything will be amazing!

It's true. Survival is the goal. Eating, bathing, and sleeping are all bonus points. Hope the solo night went smoothly. He's so big and sweet!

He looks so sweet and innocent, the little pooper! :-) I hope that soon you and Jack reach your happy equilibrium and you get to enjoy him more than simply deal with him. Hang in there!

He's a sweetie. I love the honesty in your posts. We all feel that way. Those first weeks are HARD and if I could make those capital letters bigger I would. We found things got a bit easier around the 6 week mark.

I'll ditto everything already said. It is so hard. I cried A LOT when my twins were babies, felt like I had no idea what I was doing. The reassurance I also received was if we were all alive at the end of the day and the babies were fed and clean (I didn't really matter on these 2 fronts) then we were a success. Being honest with how you feel is great. It'll help someone else who feels the same way.

Ditto! It's hard stuff, huh? I'm so sorry you got a fussy fusspot as well. Have you tried a paci? It has changed our lives these past (not even) 24 hours.
The other day I decided to vacuum. I figured he would either love the noise and stop screaming or the vacuum would drown out his cries for 5-10 minutes. I'll let you guess what happened....
Your carpets will be very clean.

Hang in there! Reading your post brought me right back to those first few weeks when I first brought my little home. I used to say that I was going to just leave him outside (I would never, but it was HARD!!). As with everyone's comments it does get easier and then you get your first true smile and head turn when you talk and every single second of struggle was worth it!!
Keep up the great work and I hope the thrush is gone!

A friend of mine who works with first time parents says that everyone thinks of dropping their child off at the fire station for the first three months of their lives. But somehow, things get better after that. I hope you have some help and support to get you through this very exhausting time. He is a cutie pie!
