Sleep Post

Every baby blog has to have at least one sleep post. So here is ours :)

Jack went 3 1/2 hours last night between feedings!! It's been about 2 1/2 hours every night. Getting an extra hour really does do miraculous things for a person. I feel very well rested this morning. Next battle is getting him to nap in the day in his crib and not in the swing.

Jack has the WORST time falling asleep. He can be all quiet, eyes droopy, mouth hanging open and just has he is about to fall asleep he freaks out and starts to panic and wail. I can almost see it in his face this complete fear of this strange sensation called sleep. He will start to fiercely kick his legs, suck on his pacifier harder and faster than I have ever seen, and when you add in the hysterical sobbing and shortness of breathe he is a very sad sight. I can't wait until he gets to the age where he can self soothe a little more. So far the only way we have been able to get him to go to sleep are:

1. In his swing
2. Wearing him
3. Bouncing on the exercise ball

If none of these 3 things work we go to the kitchen and turn on the vent/fan above the stove (this awesome tip was given to me by a friend) and go trough the list of three items again and one of them will work. It kills me to do these things because I see us creating a sleep monster but if we don't he continues to loses it, which only gets him more and more sleep deprived and then we begin to lose it. I'm hoping time will help change things.

I know you're not asking for advice, so ignore/delete as you see fit, but a really tight swaddle helped our boy loads with the whole getting off to sleep thing.

You can't create a monster at this age....not until about 6 months do they get that they have some control over the situation. For now you do what works so that everyone can get some rest!
Congrats on the 3 1/2 hours in a row!!!

Some kids are just born difficult sleepers. Do the best you can and try not to worry about "habits" - if it's so easy to create one habit, it would be easy to create another habit when this one no longer works for you, yes? My thoughts, with a difficult sleeper still at 16 months who is just now starting to think about beginning to consider sleeping through the night - it's not a matter of habits sometimes, it's a matter of personality. Sammy is a light sleeper who needs mommy a lot and doesn't like to sit still and doesn't fall asleep easily. It's tough, but we find ways to make it work. There are awful sleepless nights (teething? Growth spurts? Who knows?) but lately I've been getting 4, 5, even 6 hour stretches. It will come when he's ready.

Melissa, I totally feel you on doing anything you can to get the baby to sleep! It can be SO frustrating. Try not to stress about how and where he's sleeping...the most important thing is that he IS sleeping. It's a great sign that he's going a bit longer in between feedings.

You're doing a great job! That self-soothing time will come, I promise.

Does he like to be swaddled?

He does like to be swaddled. We swaddle him for every nap and bedtime. It doesn't seem to help get him to sleep but he sleeps better when swaddled.

I'm just going to chime in here and repeat what others have wisely said: Let the little dude sleep in the swing for now. He's just a wuuddy wuddy wittle thing right now. He needs that extra help because he's used to being rocked all day in the womb. You can create your sleep monster later. Now when he sleeps, wherever that may be, you get to relax.

I love the photo.

Some babies have an energy surge just before they go to sleep. One of my kids did. I'd put her in her crib, she'd cry, I'd pick her up and do the whole walking/rocking thing, and eventually she'd fall asleep in my arms. Then one day when I laid her down, and the fussing started, the phone rang. By the time I'd talked briefly, hung up and was ready to go do the baby walk, there was silence. She was asleep. She was able to get the last of her energy out without me coming and messing up her biorhythms by picking her up. So then I knew it was okay to let her cry briefly. By saying this, I'm not saying that I would let a baby wail away in the crib. I'm only talking about waiting a minute or two. Even that can be kind of heartrending, I know. But sometimes the crying has a purpose. Hey, swings have a purpose too! Put him in it and let everyone get some sleep.

That is great that you have found some things that help little Jack get some sleep. I hope you keep getting some more longer stretches. I know that even one four hour stretch made all the difference for me.

Sometimes I find sleep stressful and wonder if what I am doing is good or bad. I also know if there was an easy or right way to do things, sleep wouldn't be an issue. We would all have babies that slept through the night. Ahh wouldn't that be nice :)

Research has proven that a therapeutic gay sizegenetics and an erotic male sizegenetics greatly reduce simply how much discomfort and pain that one feels after surgery. This is often a very big benefit to men and women that plan to be up and running and back to normal inside the short space of energy. Whether you may be into a therapeutic gay sizegenetics or an erotic male sizegenetics it's crucial that you really identify and find a quality masseur or sizegenetics therapist who possess the many right qualities and skills. Perhaps you come across some therapeutic gay sizegenetics therapists who may not choose to perform an erotic male sizegenetics likewise the exact opposite is also true.
