Crazy Lady?

The moment has come, this will be my first cycle on clomid and I have to say I'm a little apprehensive about the side effects. Let me take a quick tangent to say that A) this particular drug was NOT covered under my insurance and B) $50 says if I was a man buying Viagra it would have been. But this particular post is not about the U.S. healthcare system it's about me :)

I will admit that there are times that I can be pretty horrible (Amy will hopefully jump in at this point and say no you aren't and my sister would jump in and say yes you are (Hi Carly!)) but I'm really worried about the moodiness side effect of the drug. I know another side effect mentioned is hot flashes but I live in Austin, TX where we are in the middle of summer so really how bad can it be.

I guess what I'm asking in a very round about way blog buddies is...Those of you that have been or are on clomid, do I have anything to worry about? I know everyone is different and reacts differently to drugs but what happened with you? Give it to me straight (no pun intended) the good, the bad and the extremely ugly.

Melissa, I took clomid for two cycles and didn't have many side effects, just the hot flashes and a little more sensitive. I found myself in tears over little stuff, which is not anything like me. Good Luck, hopefully one month with the Insemination will be all you need.

i'll be honest--it made me feel pretty cookoo. It wasn't unbearable (well, T might beg to differ), but i had night sweats, hot flashes, and mostly just felt really needy and negative about everything for about a week. Of course, i had the pleasure of a double dose (two rounds in one cycle) and it was 100mg, so hopefully if you're starting out on 50, at one round, you should be just fine.
And that sucks about the insurance. 99% of insurances cover synthetic meds to make sure the man can still stick it in, but god forbid it pay for anything that would prevent a pregnancy (or in this case, help a pregnancy) from such sticking.
i hate the man! (not men, just THE man)

I did not take clomid, but SW has taken 3 cycles - 2 at 50mg and 1 at 100mg. Though she would have to say to be certain, I believe the biggest problem she had with clomid was hot flashes at night. There wasn't a big difference for her, if any at all, between 50 and 100. In fact, follicle-wise, she responded better to 50 than the 100.

Then again, SW is also one of these that can take several cold pills and it barely slow her down.

Hope all goes well - we'll keep our fingers crossed!!

Hi Melissa! I took 4 rounds of Clomid a couple years ago and I don't think I had any side effects. I agree w/ you that it DOES suck that it is not covered under insurance!!
Although Amy doesn't think I totally understand your "different" situation, I thought I'd comment anyways.
Good luck!

I have indeed taken three rounds of clomid. My first round, I thought I was kind of nauseous, but after that I didn't have any nausea, so the first time may have been the jitters from the first cycle and not knowing what was going to happen. It was only on 100 mg that I thought I may have had a couple of hot flashes at night. So, it wasn't bad. I don't think it made me any more or less moody than usual. Good luck. Very excited for your first cycle!

Lois took Clomid and had absolutely zero side effects. It also worked on the first try with Clomid, so that's good news, right?!!?

Hi,
This is the first time I'm commenting on your blog. I took Clomid for one cycle and had absolutely no side effects. I was prepared for the worst as I had heard stories, but I don't remember anything out of the ordinary, so that's a good thing. It also worked for me on the first try. However, I had already been taking Metformin for a few months which is supposed to help when you eventually take Clomid.
