More Changes

So much to talk about I don’t even know where to start. This has been one crazy year!

In 2010:
1. We had Jackson
2. Sold our house
3. Moved to a different country
4. Amy started a new job with her same company
5. We travelled to the Dominican for my sister’s wedding (post on this to come later)
6. And to add to this list… I started a new job!

Amy and I “joke” that the only thing left on the list of big life events is a death and then we’ve experienced everything possible this year. For those who know me I HATE change so you can only imagine how excited I am for this year to be over and for the dust to settle a bit so we can slowly get into some sort of normalcy.

I’ve been at my new gig for a week now. I really like it! I’m getting to learn a lot of new things which is one of the reasons why I was interested in this position in the first place. But going from working from home to working downtown means a huge change from what our day used to be like for everyone. I think we’re all slowly adjusting. We’ve shifted Jackson’s bedtime later; he now goes to daycare full time and I have super mommy guilt about all of it. I’m hoping the daycare guilt soon. I HATE that because of my commute he is the first baby at daycare and one of the last to be picked up I think part of it might be weather related. I feel like Jackson and I never see the light of day. We leave when it’s dark and we come home when it’s dark. I feel like a write the following words in every post but here it goes anyway…I know it will get better. Hell, look at all the changes we’ve tackled so far and we’re still standing.

Congrats on surviving such a huge year!! And great news on the new job...it's great you like it.

It's tough this time of year, when it is dark for so long...I feel the same way as you do, being the first to drop Owen off and the last to pick him up. Hang in there...it gets better!

This has been a memorable year! It will get easier as you adjust to the newness of it all.

Wow, you have been through a LOT this year. Congrats on making it through so many huge changes.

The daycare thing is hard when they have to be there all day. I always feel guilty when it's almost dark when I pick them up too. The good news is they usually love daycare once they've settled in. Ian took a while but is now settling in nicely. He hasn't cried at all this week and was excited to go this morning! Doesn't make it easier to be away from them so much, but it's nice to know they're happy there.

I feel the same way about daycare! It was even worse when mine were the youngest there too. I felt terrible!

When my friend's daughter turned 1 I started to think about the idea of mothers getting awards or a treat for getting their babies (and themselves) through the first year of life. You are incredible because you've gotten Jackson through the first 10 months of his life with the added stress of moving, a new job, etc. Daycare guilt sucks. 5 months later, I still feel it and the only thing that eases my guilt is going to see him every day at lunch. Can you still log online to see him? Weekends have become more exciting for me other than obvious reason (no work). It's totally dedicated to family time and it helps doing that when I only get to hang out with my son for a 1-2 hours after work each day. Hugs to you.

What a lot of change. The darkness is hard. I feel it. I am looking forward to it getting lighter and more sunshine so that when I get home from work we can go outside and play for a bit.

Just so you know, there are people there earlier at many daycares. I drop off our kids by about 7 am or just past and there are plenty of kids there. Many people here need to commute--it's just how it is. :/

But Jackson DOES see the light of day because of daycare he is outside on nice days or enjoying sunlight through the big windows. He is playing and doing activities. I bet you he has a great day. So try not to feel the guilt because trust me, daycare can be really, really wonderful. I know our kids thrive when they're there and get bored when they're home for too long. I love that they do crafts, learn, read books, sing songs, go outside, etc.

You have had a crazy year, for sure! And maybe we'll have to grab lunch one day now that you're downtown like the rest of us. ;) We will definitely have to plan some kind of get-together in the new year!

My god, you guys have had quite the year! I was so saddened to read of your long commute. Maybe your holidays be joyful.
