Boys and Bellies

I've finally been given permission to post a belly shot. This week was a little rocky for Melissa. She has been having lots of leg and back cramps. She even broke out the Yoga for pregnant women to try to help her out. Most of her pain is in the evening or when she is sleeping so I thought I would buy her a body pillow to help. She really enjoyed the support of the body pillow and I think it will cut down on some of her back pain she is experiencing.

In other news, this weekend our friend came over and performed her "scientific" test to determine if our baby is a girl or a boy. She used a needle and thread and due to the direction the needle was swinging (back and forth mean boy, circles means girl) it looks like Bit's a boy.

I have to admit before we got pregnant I really wanted to know the sex of the baby. Now that we are pregnant I love the excitement of waiting to find out. Melissa told me if we have a second baby we can find out before hand but I think I like not knowing.

We are excited about the upcoming week because we have an appointment and get to look at Bit again and my sister is coming for a visit. We will give you an update this weekend after our appointment.

I also love not knowing if it is a boy or a girl. I hope the back pain and leg cramps ease up soon. Try swimming if you can.

Calcium Magnesium! Make her take some before bed. It made my charlie horses go away. The one time I forgot to take it, I got another CH. I just made this comment on Puffer's page, too. It was some of the best a$$vice I was given while pregnant.

Can we discuss the belly? Your baby is in there! Couldn't be cuter.

Heya! Two things that really helped me with my back pain were going to see a chiropractor (one who has specific training in dealing with pregnant women, though) and pelvic rocks. It's an exersize that involves getting on all fours, hunching your back upward (like a halloween cat), while tucking your head down into your chest. Then, you relax, lift your head up and let your hips kind of hang. You can probably google it or youtube it for more info and a better explanation.

The body pillow also helps immensely!

Sweet belly photo and I love your updates.
Sorry about the back pain, I have heard exercise balls are great (gentle gentle bouncing)-- your midwife might have some great ideas (swimming??)

good luck and I hope Amy finds ways to be more comfortable, and I am so thrilled for you all,

warmly,
Kate

I also went to a chiropractor, but a pregnancy massage helped much much more. Also google "chinese gender predictor" - based on your age and month of conception it tells you supposedly quite accurately! let us know what it says. I applaud you for waiting...i would never be able too.

Great belly shot!
I love that you are not going to find out. The element of surprise of something you can never duplicate. When people ask me what we are having I tell them we are pretty sure we are having babies.

Swimming, yoga, cow/cat poses, child's pose and the bouncy ball all have helped my lower back issues (and I have them ALL the pain even prior to pregnancy).
Hope you find something that helps, but I highly recommend a prenatal massage as well!

Cute belly! I think it is very exciting not knowing... but we weren't strong enough to pull that one off.

I have a body pillow too and I've found that it helps a lot with my leg cramps and joint aches. Also, you can sleep on your right or left, I've found switching sides every time I get up to pee to be helpful as well.

Aww, what a cute belly shot! Sorry to hear about the back and leg pain. That's so cool that you're waiting to find out Bit's sex. I always wondered if I'd have the patience to wait. It will be interesting to find out if the highly scientific needle and thread test is accurate!

What an adorable belly shot! I'm glad you posted it. I think its great that you don't know the sex. What a fun surprise when you meet your child for the first time on the day s/he is born.

Melissa- no, I haven't made anything yet. I think in a few weeks when the chilly weather kicks in, I'll start on something, probably a blanket. I seem to knit, sew, crochet more in the fall/winter than any other time of the year. My goal is to sew some sleep sacs, burp cloths (I've seen some fancy ones), and bibs and knit some hats and this one sweater from my books and crochet a blanket. I better get going.

Hi there!

Sorry to repost this, but I thought maybe you didn't see it on the previous post:

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! I am an occasional reader of your blog, though I don't think I have ever commented. I'm wondering if you could email me about your experiences with the laparoscopy you had last year? My email is heversgall[at]gmail[dot]com. I have a laparoscopic myomectomy scheduled to remove a large-ish fibroid, and I would like to hear your experiences, if possible (I'm pretty nervous about it). What was the surgery like? How long was your recovery time? Will you have to have a c-section now?

Thank you!
